Are you a law firm?
Yes, a SELARL registered with the Paris Bar.
So, you're not a matchmaking platform?
No, all of Seconda's services are the fruit of collaborative work between the Secondants and Seconda's partners. Every service is signed by Seconda.
If we have a page presenting the Secondants, it is simply because we wish to highlight the quality of our experts.
Having a tenured professor, an associate from a Supreme Court bar firm and a practising lawyer all on my matter, that's going to cost me a fortune, isn't it?
On the contrary, we choose the team according to each Secondant's expertise and strengths, so that each one can focus on what they do best and thereby optimize the time spent.
So, this is subcontracting?
Not really, because our service is aimed at you, and not your end client; the tone used is always expert to expert.
Our goal is not to "do it for you" but to "unblock" you, to strengthen you, the legal professional, so you can best support your client.
For example, we are not meant to draft an entire summons or a full shareholders' agreement. Instead, we'll address the procedural point keeping you up at night, validate a complex clause at the intersection of intellectual property and private international law, or provide a legal opinion to strengthen your pleadings.
How did you select the Secondants?
We launched the project with 35 Secondants, all drawn from our respective professional careers.
After that, it was combination of the adage "the best know the best" and headhunting carried out as needs arose.
Each time, we tested profiles with a double criterion "good jurist, good spirit": we make sure of both their scientific qualities and their compatibility with our collective-intelligence model and our fully horizontal way of working.
The result: an outstanding pool of law geeks, from court case technicians to top-ranking graduates and editors of Dalloz treatises, including the behind-the-scenes craftsmen of Supreme Court and specialists in foreign law.
On that regard, 21+20+46+21+16 equals 124, not 89, and there are only 57 portraits...?
Yes, well spotted. Some Secondants wear two hats: full professor and lawyer, senior lecturer professor and at a Supreme Court bar firm, or lawyer and foreign-law expert. As for portraits, some prefer to remain discreet.
Can we deal directly with the Secondants?
For the sake of smooth running and cost efficiency, the partners handles, as a rule, the entire client relationship and case management; but if the matter requires it, or simply if you wish, that is entirely possible.
Are you in contact with the end client?
Same answer as for the Secondants, you decide, and we do whatever is most effective for your matter.
We've simply noticed that, in high-stakes matters, it is important that the client has our model and our added value explained to them, which can be done by you as well as by us.
Aren't you afraid of AI?
We're a bit like you, probably. We're watching technology develop at a crazy pace and we're trying to carve our own path while avoiding both denial and fatalism.
For now, we see AI as a useful assistant, but we are convinced that human work remains essential. We experiment with it daily, whether to identify the right questions or to find answers when the law is uncertain or silent.
